Material

  • Gold Vermeil-

Gold Vermeil (pronounced ver-may), a sterling silver base with heavy and thicker gold plating (2.5 microns by US standards). It does not tarnish and it is hypoallergenic. Because gold vermeil is much thicker layer than gold plating, the gold last longer and will not rub off. However, the gold will gradually wear off overtime.

A lot of styles are made by gold vermeil due to the way it is created, so we use Gold Vermeil. Gold vermeil is substantial and affordable jewelry, it’s a great options for you who want to wear jewelry without tarnishing.

Gold Vermeil

Gold vermeil (pronounced “ver-may”) means each design contains a sterling silver core coated in a thick outer layer of 14-karat gold. Due to this sterling silver core, gold vermeil is naturally hypoallergenic and can be highly durable when properly cleaned and stored. Unlike “gold plating” which often refers to a thinner coating around lower quality alloy metals, gold vermeil has a layer of gold that is, by definition, at least 2.5 microns thick, making it more durable and higher quality than gold plating.

Gold vermeil is, however, slightly more delicate than gold-filled jewelry, so make sure you maintain long-lasting shine by avoiding chemicals and abrasives, cleaning your piece with a dry cloth, and always storing it in your Quill storage pouch. Keeping your gold vermeil dry will also prolong the life of your piece.

Care Tips + How to Clean Your Gold Jewelry

Follow our everyday cleaning and care instructions to help ensure your jewelry stays in peak condition. Note that gold vermeil and gold fill are high quality materials, but they still need some level of care to prolong lifespan and avoid damaging wear. Unlike solid gold, it is possible for the outer layer of gold vermeil or gold fill to be damaged, revealing the core metal alloy. This type of damage can usually be avoided or delayed with proper care and gentle cleaning with a dry cloth, and all types of gold jewelry can benefit from proper storage.
